So, yes, you can compare ink printers of different manufacturers with each other when it comes to continously printing.

But the average customer prints in batches and there you have the printer's self cleaning process kicking in. The yield therefore also depends on how efficient the printer's self cleaning process is and how often it is performed by the printer. Unfortunately those characteristics vary heavily from manufacturer to manufacturer and even from printer to printer.

So, no, even with the new standards you can't compare the printers with each other when it comes to real life printing duties.

However, the ISO standards do not talk about coverage, but rather focus on real world pages. If you look closely now at OEM claims, most are now following ISO giving you an apples to apples comparision for the first time!

Will you get 7000 prints at 2.5% as well as 3500 at 5%, 1750 at 10%?

Do OEMs put limits on yields less than 5% so you get say only 4200 prints and not 7000? Is this a function of the cost of the printer?
