A weekly summary of the more interesting technology trends to come across my desk...
- Tech Crunch reports that 10,000 applications have now been released for the iPhone, with an average price of around 3 bucks. On a related note, the Android G1 sales are exceeding expectations, ramping up to a million a quarter as reported by tgdaily.
- Testing web sites might be a bit easier, with an interesting product called Lunascape, which allows you to select any of the major browser rendering engines (Trident, Gecko, WebKit), as reported in this eWeek post.
- Google just released SearchWiki, which allows you to comment on search results, see others comments, and even force selected sites to the top of the search results for a given term. I'm still a bit fuzzy on it's usefulness, but perhaps I'll see the light once I give it a try.
- ars technica reports on the success of a Windows patch that removed fake anti-virus software from over a million PCs. We all know that viruses are a huge problem, but somehow this event put the true magnitude for the problem in perspective for me.
- Video use on the Internet is growing like a weed, as reported in the ZDNet post. The most interesting part of the post comment that peer-to-peer video traffic today is the equivalent of users sharing 500 million DVDs a month!
- Telephony in the Cloud is a reality. Check out this Tech Crunch post on a startup named Twilio who's simple API will allow web sites to implement Internet telephony functionally with just a few lines of code.
- How about a simple web service that alerts you when a down web site come back on line? Great idea in my opinion! Check out this Tech Crunch post.
